What is FearFest? In 1997, the AMC network launched Monsterfest, a popular week-long marathon of horror movies and thrillers that aired in late October. On September 26, 2008, AMC announced the launch of a new horror-themed movie marathon for its October schedule called “Fearfest” which replaced Monsterfest.  Fear Fest typically runs from mid-October every year until Halloween (often the day after too) and in recent years has run throughout the entire month of October. In 2023 AMC ran a “Kickoff to FearFest” that began on September 25th.

Honestly, is it just me or does it look like their playing the same movies day after day? And some aren’t even good. Play the altime ultimate classic horror movies! Nightmare on Elem Street (1984), The Blob (1988), The Thing, They Live, Village of the Damned, The Fly (1986), Alien, American Werewolf in London, Candyman, Christine, Pet Semetery (1 and 2), The Fog, etc.

Have a Stephen King Day where you play all the movies that were based on his awesome books!

  • Love the lineup. No Walking Dead, please. I don’t like that. If “Friday the 13th the Series” would be available to show in the daytime that would be awesome!

Please when you are doing a movie series do it in the order that the movies had premiered.

I agree. There is nothing worse than watching something that is not shown in order. I have never been able to wrap my head around why these networks do that.

I Know. It gives me a complete headache when they do this because what if someone who has never seen the series decides to watch it, but the movies are not in order and they will have no clue of what is happening because something could have been mention in reference to a previous movie.

  • Any idea when the entire schedule will be announced? I’ve been stalking the page daily waiting… impatiently. I love what I’ve seen so far.
Also, Paramount network the last couple of years has done “Killer Classics” for the month of October.

  • I know you track mostly cable networks with officially named Halloween events, but check out the the Movies! OTA network’s October schedule… you might consider adding a list of their films. Looks rather solid with a mix of classic and modern…

    for example:

    Friday, October 2, 2020

6:00 AM – Son of Kong
7:40 AM – Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde (1941)
    10:15 AM – The Haunting (1961)
12:40 PM – The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945)
    3:05 PM – Two on a Guillatine (1965)
    10:40PM – Brainscan (1994)
    12:45AM – Boogeyman 2 (2008)
    2:40 AM – Boogeyman 3 (2009)

The full schedule for AMC Fearfest is not up yet, but from what I see thus far, there are some good scary movies being shown this year like John Carpenter’s “Halloween”. Now, hopefully, AMC schedules “Halloween” on Halloween at least multiple times because that’s the ultimate Halloween horror movie viewing experience, hands down! It looks like they will show most of the Halloween sequels again, but I don’t see the best ones like the original sequel “Halloween 2” (1981) starring Donald Pleasance——and, NO, I am not talking about the Rob Zombie remake rubbish!! Also, I don’t see “Halloween 3” Season of the Witch. Personally, I have grown to really appreciate “Halloween 3” Season of the Witch; I know, I know….Michael Myers is not in it, but it has a great Halloween motif/theme, creepy John Carpenter soundtrack to it, and Tom Atkins does a terrific job in what is actually a very innovative Halloween movie. If the movie had simply been named “Season of the Witch” or “Samhain”, “Halloween 3” would have been much better received when initially released.

Basically, I recommend even more of the Halloween movies, focusing on parts 1, 2, 3 (no Myers but underrated), and 4. I’m okay with the others, but they really go down after part 4 in my opinion. Also, I would like to see “Salem’s Lot” (1979), “The Omen”, “Damien: Omen II”, “The Exorcist”, “The Shining”, “Amityville Horror”, “Amityville II: The Possession”, “Amityville 3”, “Sinister”, “The Blair Witch Project”, “The Conjuring”, “The Last Exorcism”, “The Houses that October Built”, “Hell House, LLC”, the original “When a Stranger Calls”, “He Knows You’re Alone”, “Pet Semetery”, “The Funhouse”, “The Silver Bullet”, the original “Nightmare on Elm Street”, “Friday the 13th” again parts 1-6, “The Pit & the Pendulum” (Vincent Price), “Dark Night of the Scarecrow”, and “Paranormal Activity”. Some of these movies are based on a Halloween theme and are perfect for the season. Others are simply classic horror movies that are perfect for Fearfest. And, finally, I have included some lesser know Halloween-based horror movies which may not be great movies in and of themselves, but are certainly good for the season. AMC Fearfest would do well to show all of these movies, and simply cut out “The Walking Dead”, which simply doesn’t fit the Halloween theme and takes away from the season’s theme.

Keep in mind, only a partial list of AMC Fearfest has been released, so we’ll get to see more later, and hopefully the great horror movies will be shown at better times going forward. Crossing my fingers…

We need to make the original 1978 Dawn of the Dead happen, i don’t care how but they gotta make it happen and Day of the dead and all of the other George a Romero classic movies. They should make 1 day for fear fest for a tribute to George A Romero. When i think of Halloween his classic movies come to mind. The classic zombie movies defy fear fest, hopefully they wont shy away with that just because they have the walking dead still on AMC……Tell me what do you think………..

Dawn 78 won’t be on. The rights to it prevent this. As to day of the dead, I hope so,it has been on other Fear Fests. I hope Diary of the Dead is on too. Your idea of 1 day dedication to GAR is exactly what AMC needs to do.

I absolutely hated Halloween 3 ,I felt jipped. Your are absolutely right it should have had it’s own separate title.
Surprised they don’t include TCM schedules. Love Lugosi for Halloween.
