When choosing the movie was half the fun
A small ritual for turning the restored listings into an evening of your own.
Open the Halloween 2012 sampler and start at 19:00. The saved list offers Hocus Pocus. At 20:00, Great Pumpkin and Frankenstein appear on different channels. There is no perfect choice; that is what makes the list interesting.
A schedule asks something different from an endless catalogue. You choose what matters tonight, and you accept that something else will happen without you. That little limit can make an ordinary evening feel like an occasion.
Try it with someone who remembers a different television childhood. Each of you picks one listing and explains the choice. The movie can come later. Sometimes the memory is the evening.
